Where we started

R.E.A.L Foundation Trust wanted a space that could build resilience and self-esteem in young people and their communities.

It also needed to support R.E.A.L Education’s Academy, a bespoke curriculum focused on sports and public services education.

The brief included design consultancy, space planning and a phased project management approach.

Where we focused

We focused on making the space feel open, useful and full of possibility. A place where young people could build confidence, the wider community could come together, and every room could flex around education, fitness, meetings, events and local enterprise. The design also had to carry R.E.A.L’s values through every part of the building. Not in a “logo on the wall and job done” way. In a way that shaped how people moved through the space, used it and felt inside it.

What changed

The restored centre includes a sports hall, boutique gym, meeting rooms, physiotherapy services, coaching and fitness training through Performance 360, plus hot pod yoga. It gives R.E.A.L Foundation Trust a flexible base for wellbeing, education, activity and community use.

Outside, large LED advertising screens give local businesses a platform to promote themselves while helping Landmark generate revenue. The plan is for profits to be reinvested into future R.E.A.L Foundation projects that benefit local communities.

The building now gives young people and the wider community somewhere built around confidence, opportunity and positive change.

The impact

Young people have an environment designed to inspire and motivate. A place where education feels practical and connected to real opportunities. A place that supports confidence, self-esteem and engagement, especially for learners who need a different route through education.

The wider community has access to health, fitness, wellbeing and meeting spaces in one local facility. Residents, businesses and community groups can gather, train, learn and connect.

The project also gives R.E.A.L Foundation Trust a platform for long-term impact. The building supports essential wellbeing and educational services today, while its revenue model helps fund future community-focused projects.
