Behind the Scenes with our Project Director, Andy
Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at Blueprint Interiors?
Today, we chat with our Project Director, Andy Sawyer who offers a glimpse into his role, his favourite projects, and the unique company culture that makes Blueprint Interiors a special place to work.
Tell us a little bit about your role
I’m the Project Director here at Blueprint Interiors, which means I head up the pre construction & delivery side of things. To ensure our projects are completed successfully, on time and within budget.
Right now, I’m working closely with our Creative Director Chloe on the design consultancy aspect of our services. This involves liaising with our project partners like architects and M&E contractors during the initial stages of projects also collaborating with our workplace consultants and engaging with clients to piece together the many parts of the jigsaw that becomes a design and build turnkey solution.
What has been your favourite project to be a part of?
My favourite project recently has definitely been Melton Building Society. It was one of the most prestigious projects that Blueprint Interiors were involved in at the time, and it was a win-win for both the company and the client. The end result clearly showcased the Blueprint DNA which we consciously focus on infusing into all of our projects at all stages.
What is your favourite part about working at Blueprint Interiors?
What I love most about working here is the company culture. It’s the core of who we are and has been carefully safeguarded during the growth of the business.
We don’t avoid problems or point fingers; instead, we tackle challenges as a team and support each other.
What is your favourite area of WorkLife Central?
While I get teased about it (because I’m always sitting there despite the many flexible workspaces we have available!) my favourite spot is the project lab.
It’s a great collaborative space where I can work with my team and bounce ideas around.
What is your favourite part of the fit-out process?
The most rewarding part of my job is definitely seeing the positive reactions from clients and their employees when they move into their new space.
Clients often worry whether their staff will appreciate the changes, and with the cultural changes we implement in our projects, it’s always a great satisfaction to see how much they love the final outcome.
What is the best lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?
The best lesson I’ve learned in my career is the power of active listening.
I believe that to listen, and to truly understand what others are saying, is the key to dealing with just about any situation – good or bad.
If you listen, are patient and stay calm when things go wrong, it helps you find the best solutions to problems much more effectively.
What’s a fact about you that people might not know?
Something not many people know about me is that I worked in the Middle East many moons ago before I joined Blueprint. I was part of a team carrying out hotel refurbishment works immediately following the liberation of Kuwait after the first gulf war whilst the region was still classified as a war zone.
I also actively participate in charity work, particularly with a local Nottingham charity called Harmless in memory of a close friend who was an ambassador for the charity.
